year results 2006: 10,1% more passengers (11th July 2006) Salzburg airport shows again a strong performance. During the first six months the number of handeled passengers increased by 10,1%. All together 981.387 used the Mozart airport. During the same period the number of movements decreased by 8,8% to 11.600. This development results from the bankruptcy of Styrian Spirit which operated mostly jets in the 50-70 seater range and the substitution of these by additional low cost links to Charleroi and Dublin by Ryanair and its 189seater B737-800 aircrafts. The number of scheduled passengers increased by 21%. The touristical number of passengers decreased by 7,1% but the number of incoming charter passengers increased by 2%. This development is mostly caused due the change of some charter flights to scheduled flights. Especially impressive is the june performance: 17,6% less passengers but 12% more passengers. Airport CEO Dipl.-Ing. Günther AUER comments the first six months: "The traffic data shows how short lived the present air transport market is and how difficult it is to give prognosis. The trend to larger aircrafts and a better yield of flights out of Salzburg will continue in the 2nd half." |
